November is Lung Cancer Awareness Month. To help spread awareness, I would like to share some key statistics about lung cancer and some resources to provide your patients:
•
Lung cancer is one of the most common cancers in the United States1
•
Non–small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is the most prevalent type of lung cancer and accounts for about 84% of all lung cancer diagnoses2
•
It is estimated that over 198,000 people will be diagnosed with NSCLC in 20211,2
•
About 1 in 2 patients with metastatic NSCLC have biomarkers with approved, emerging, or evolving therapeutics3,4
•
There are 9 known actionable biomarkers in NSCLC3,4
•
Approximately 1%-2% of NSCLC cases are caused by abnormal RET genes5
Emerging Therapeutics=currently being studied in clinical trials; Evolving Therapeutics=either proof-of-concept studies or in a very early clinical stage; RET=rearranged during transfection.
