Focus on what matters
It’s easy to get caught up in everything that comes along with the holidays. Parties, traveling, and buying gifts are all part of the festivities, but do them at your own pace. As you know, stress and too much physical activity can trigger episodes of PPP.1 Relaxing is important this time of year.
Tips for managing stress or moderating activity2-4:
Plan ahead by making a to-do list and setting aside specific times to relax
Try activities such as meditation, yoga, or deep breathing exercises
Almost any form of exercise can help lower stress. Pick something you love to do, get moving (moderately), and have fun!
Set reminders on your phone to take breaks
Can you see your breath?
Depending on where you are, it can be pretty cold this time of year. Remember, exposure to cold and changes in temperature can trigger episodes of PPP in some patients.1 So, unless you live somewhere warm, or are vacationing somewhere tropical, you should take necessary precautions.
Tips for maintaining a warm body temperature5:
Wear several layers of clothing so you can adjust from going indoors to outdoors
Stay away from doors and drafty windows when you're inside
Finding the right options at the holiday feast
It wouldn’t be a celebration without plenty of food. It’s tempting to overindulge in all of those tasty treats, but you know your body best. If certain foods are triggers for you,1 try to avoid them. Your body will thank you for it.
Tips for avoiding food-related triggers:
Search food ingredients and nutrition facts on the USDA website or use an app that provides this information
Share your dietary restrictions with friends and family ahead of time so they can have options for you
Also, offer to bring a dish that you've prepared that you know you can eat
